In order to enhance academic writing skills among student of Master of International Relations (MIHI) University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, the student body and the management held an essay and opinion writing workshop for printed media on Saturday (8/3). This activity is part of the programs organized by MIHI that has been scheduled monthly with different themes for each meeting. This program is compulsory for MIHI students. The primary objective of this workshop is to provide writing skills so as to the students are expected to be able to produce academic papers in the form of articles as well as opinion.
Generally, the MIHI students were so enthusiastic join this activity especially in this session which was guided by one of the MIHI productive lecturer named Mr. Ade Marup Wirasenjaya, S.IP M.A, who is also as the editor in chief Journal of International Relations (JHI) UMY. The journal itself has been accredited by Indonesian Ministry of Higher Education and Research. Basically, this training provides some technical concept during essay writing process so that meet the mass media requirements such as choose the interest topics, length of the essay and express the ideas in the paper. Mr. Ade insisted that the key for the success of the essay writing is the students should a lot of read and write. People cannot write without read. Student should increase the collection of the books to be read, enrich vocabulary and diction. Some participants was expressed a special acknowledgement to the organizer that they have got a new insight and knowledge about essay writing. They were also expected that this program should be followed by a concrete academic activity.
